Washed-Out Joints | Weeds | Ants | Shifting Pavers
Across Lake, McHenry & Cook County — based right here in Volo.
Re-sanding is how we bring failing paver joints back to life. If you see weeds pushing up between pavers, ants nesting in the lines, or pavers that shift underfoot, the joint sand has washed out — and that sand is what holds the whole surface together. Our crews sweep commercial-grade polymeric sand into the joints, compact it, and activate it so it hardens in place. Across Lake, McHenry, and Cook County, based in Volo, done right the first time.
We don't publish a flat price — every paver surface is different. Here's what shapes your quote.
We match the sand and the amount to your joints — every quote is free, with no surprises.
The joints have to be clean and the old, failed sand removed first. Re-sanding over dead sand and roots doesn't hold, which is why cleaning usually comes first.
We sweep commercial-grade polymeric sand into every joint, working it fully down so there are no gaps or voids left in the line.
We compact the surface so the sand settles tight into the joints and the pavers lock against each other.
A controlled mist activates the polymers so the sand hardens in place. Done on a dry surface with proper cure time — not the hardware-store shortcut.
Why not the bag from the hardware store? Cheap polymeric sand often hazes or breaks down within a season or two. We use commercial-grade Surebond sand and apply it correctly — done right the first time.

Every job, every surface, done right the first time. That's how our crews work.
Regular sand just fills the gap and washes out with the first hard rain. Polymeric sand contains binders that harden after activation, locking the joints, resisting weeds and ants, and holding the pavers in place far longer. We use commercial-grade sand, not the play sand or the bargain bag.
Weeds between pavers are a symptom of joint failure, not just a surface nuisance. When the joint sand washes out, seeds and roots take hold in the open gaps. Re-sanding with polymeric sand seals the joints so there's nowhere for weeds to establish.
Usually not, and doing so is a shortcut that doesn't last. New sand needs clean, empty joints to bond properly. If the old sand, weeds, and roots are still in the line, the new sand sits on top of failure. See our paver cleaning page.
Properly applied commercial-grade polymeric sand holds for years, far longer than a hardware-store bag. Exactly how long depends on traffic, drainage, and weather — repeated freeze-thaw and heavy runoff wear joints faster. When our crews look at your pavers, we'll give you an honest read.
Re-sanding locks the joints, which stops the small movement that comes from empty gaps. But if pavers are shifting because the base underneath has settled or heaved, that's a re-leveling issue — see our re-leveling and lifting page. We'll tell you which one you're dealing with.
